Modern Architecture: It'll never last

And so it happened....
After a year and something of my last visit to Stonehenge, I managed to go once more. It is true what they say after all that once you go to Stonehenge you are bound to go back again. So we started our trip on the most amazing weather for a November Sunday morning, and hopped on the train to Salisbury. In the first few pictures, me, Foteini and Myrto are at the train station of Westbury (where all sorts of things happened later on) waiting for our connection train. Please, be sensitive, as these were at 9 in the morning...

Anyways, we finally made it to Salisbury: the nearest town to Stonehenge. We hopped on the bus and after a short journey, we arrived at mighty Stonehenge. Yes, indeed, it is a daunting place, and as the audio guide explains the stories and legends behind Stonehenge, you can feel the atmosphere getting heavier with the ghosts of the past. Druids and giants, wizzards and aliens all hover above your mind and haunt you til you reach the end of the tour. It was at that point that after watching Ice Age again, I remember the line that is thrown in the beginning of the movie, as the prehistoric creatures make their way to the South:

- Modern Architecture
- Pah! It'll never last!!!

So here we are with Foteini, sitting on a bench, and we feel as if we own the monument!!

And then it was back to Salisbury! A short walk in the town, a visit to the Cathedral and then a nice lunch/dinner at Prezzo. The next picture The next picture presents the side of medieval Salisbury, where William the Conqueror and other important figures of England passed. Here, the Magna Carta was signed, and river Avon that passes through, connects everything to Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare was born!

In a short journey back in time, it was about time to check out the Cathedral. The Cathedral itself has the tallest spiral in England more than 100ft tall. And in the Chapter House, you can admire the one out of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta. Of course, it is in Latin and in abbreviated format, therefore, a bit not legible... but the red-coated old ladies were more than happy to explain everything to you (and investigate who you are like Mrs. Marple!)

And so, it was about time to eat. We had a fantastic meal, followed by amazing desserts and it was then time to hit home. But, what was it! As soon as we set foot on the train platform on time, Myrto's friend (who has a reputation of jinxing everyone and everything as soon as she opens her mouth) called her! From then on, everything went simply wrong. Our connection train to Westbury was full, so we had to stand. Then, a girl in front of us did something really smelly and served it to us on our faces (farted... jesus!) it was simple biohazard, but where can you go if you are stuck in the train??? Then, upon arrival to Westbury, our connecting train was late initially for 30 minutes, then we left about an hour later! Meanwhile it started raining, we were tired from the trip and couldn't even get a coffee as the train was packed and couldn't move beyond our coach -- literally stepping on people to go through... Finally, reaching Exeter, our bus came on time (!?!?!) and we said... like our village, nowhere!

Overall, yes, it was a fantastic experience. Above all, just seeing the monument and spending some time altogether was amazing!

Exmouth

Niels Holgersson!!! For those who remember that children's cartoon... here is a picture of Exmouth in the sunset with three swans just flying out into the mainland...

This was indeed one of the most exciting trips... the sea... the swans... the boat rowing to safety into the harbor as the sun is almost hidden behind the patch of grey-blue clouds...

The small marina at Exmouth... what a joy to see the sea once more... While the clouds started to gather in the blue sky, the small fishing boats slowly return to the harbor to find safe haven from the upcoming storm. We almost escaped the rage of nature as the clouds quickly disappeared and the winds settled down, as the sunrays shed their strength upon Exmouth, warming the atmosphere and allowing us to take a short walk by the beach and the sand dunes...

Recovering my strength

Just today by talking to my beloved louloublu (find her blogspot on louloublu.blogspot.com) I discovered and recovered my strength to continue with this blog... watch out as more interesting things are yet to come...
